Early Engagement & Co-Design

Supported by Youth First, the Project Team commissioned Archibeats CIC to lead a youth engagement programme at the Richard MacVicar Youth club in Deptford. The key objectives of the commission were to ensure Archibeats, on behalf of the Project Team, fostered meaningful connections with the local community and gave a voice to young people in the collaborative design of green spaces in their neighbourhood. The goal was to empower young people to actively participate in this initiative, making their input a valuable part of the project’s success.

Archibeats CIC delivered a series of workshops, designed to upskill and encourage young people to share their views on their aspirations for local green spaces within the Sayes Court Housing Estate. The workshops utilised music and visual arts to discover novel design interventions within the built environment that will help to guide the design process.

Working closely with the design team, their concepts formed part of a broader feasibility study aimed at attracting future investment for the construction of the required facilities.

The project was concluded with a public exhibition, showcasing the young people’s work creating a platform to engage potential funders.

By connecting young people with professionals and providing a stage for their creative visions, this initiative highlighted the transformative potential of design to empower individuals and strengthen communities.
